India Travel Tips for Women: Things to Enjoy in India!

1. Connecting with Indian women in the most unexpected ways. Don’t be surprised if Indian women make pretty direct and personal comments about your appearance. Indian ladies love to give you advice on your outfit, your jewellery (or the lack of it), the way you should plait your hair or the lack of flowers in your hair – basically, they love to tell you what you need to do to look more Indian.

Don’t take it as an offence if a woman tells you you need to pierce your nose, get some new earrings or buy some bangles. If she speaks good English, you’ll get lots of good tips; if she doesn’t speak English, she will poke you, pinch you and use sign language until you understand the message: you need to wear more jewellery and a couple of flowers in the hair wouldn’t hurt either.

 2. Staying in a homestay. Homestays are one of the best parts of travelling in India. A homestay usually means comfortable, mid-range, family-run accommodation that comes with home cooked food. Homestays vary in prices and in standards, but can be great places to chill out for a few days. A family-run homestay can be a comfy and safe place to stay if you’re a woman traveller.

3. Cheap beauty treatments! Even if you are not the sort of woman who gets a weekly pedicure, India’s beauty parlours are so cheap that you can enjoy manicures, pedicures, facials, coconut oil head massages and other beauty treatments for the cost of a cup of coffee back home. Take the opportunity to get a few treatments and to pamper yourself every now and then.
